Review: Chanel Vitalumiere Foundation

16 Apr

If there is one type of makeup product that I am SUPER DUPER anal about it would have to be foundation. Finding one that gives you the right color, finish and coverage is extremely important or else you will end up looking like a cake with orange frosting. And I’m sure this is not the look you are going for.

So recently I stopped by the Chanel counter to try out the Vitalumiere foundation because I heard a lot of mixed reviews on it and I wanted to from an opinion myself. How do I put this nicely….I HATE IT. Here is why:

-Extremely dewy finish; I literally looked like a shining disco ball after application and even after I had set it with my MAC Skinfinish powder.

-The cover is not buildable. It is supposedly a full coverage foundation but it came nothing close to any of the medium or full coverage foundations I have used in the past.

-The sales associate claimed that this is “wedding foundation” because it claims to give a glowing and even finish. I would rather jump off a bridge than wear this on my wedding.

-The smell reminds me of an old lady’s perfume. Bleh.

I hate to sit here and bash this foundation because I am a fan of Chanel products. But I think people mostly pay for the label rather than the product that you are receiving. For example, the Revlon Colorstay foundation is super cheap and gives great full coverage  and a matte finish. Why would you spend $50 when you can spend $10?

What are some of your favorite foundations? Let me know!

I have been on a bit of a MAC kick lately and have found a lot of products that I think will be staples in my collection for a long time. Usually MAC has been a hit or miss for me, but fortunately for me (and unfortunately for my wallet) I have been loving a lot of products!

1. Mineralize Blush in “Warm Soul”– I usually walk right by the mineralize blushes because they tend to have a lot of sparkles in them but this color really caught my attention. It’s a beautiful pink color with gold sparkles and a bit of a brown undertone. When applied to the cheeks the sparkles blend into the skin so nicely without making me look super shiny.

2. Lipstick in “Creme Cup”– I know this is a very popular color but I just got my hands on it and I am in love! If you are looking for a perfect soft pink lipstick, check this one out. It is a creme finish, which is my favorite because of how smooth it goes on and stays on the lips.

3. Lipstick in “Secret Lover”– Pale nude-pink with a pearly finish. This was a limited edition color but I found it at my local CCO and have been enjoying it. I normally don’t like the lustre lipsticks because the sparkles are always too apparent but this color is just the perfect amount of shine. If you have a CCO by you, I suggest checking out this color for yourself.

4. Blush in “Buff”– This color is underrated! It is a warm pinkish-brown and I truly think it doesn’t get the hype it deserves. I think it is such a perfect everyday color for your cheeks and just adds the right amount of color without looking like you’re wearing blush.

5. Paint Pot in “Painterly”– I have used all types of eyeshadow primers from Urban Decay to Elf to Lancome. But nothing compares to this paint pot! I was a little hesitant to purchase it because it was a bit pricey but so many people raved about it so I was sucked into it; and I’m so glad I did! I apply it on my eyelids before using any eyeshadows and it creates a smooth nude canvas for me to work with. Unlike other primers, it evens out skin tone and reduces any redness or discoloration you may have. It also helps with keeping your eyeshadow from creasing and staying put!

Mini Ulta Haul!

3 Apr

Ok so this isn’t exactly a haul since I’ve been trying to cut down on spending recently BUT I saw Ulta was having a sale and I just couldn’t resist. This week they have all NYX products 40% off as well as Revlon and Physicians Formula. So if you are looking to stock up on any of these brands or were interested in trying them, this is the perfect time. There is also a printable coupon online for $3.50 off a purchase of $10 or more. You can find it here:

These are the things I picked up:

1. NYX Stick Blush in Orchid: This color is beautiful! I have never really been a fan of cream or stick blushes but this is such a unique color of coral-pinkish with gold shimmer. It blends in so nicely into the skin and I can already tell it’s going to be a staple in my collection.

2. Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee: Do I really need more lip butters? No.. but everytime I try to find this color it is always sold out and I finally got my hands on it. It’s a really nice frosty nude color and like I mentioned in a previous post, very moisturizing.

3. NYX Megashine Lipgloss: The colors I got were in Sugarpie (frosty nude color) and Nude Peach (not a nude at all, more of a very bright pinky-peach. What I love about these glosses is that they are super pigmented and when applied over a lipstick, they last a long time. The applicator is very big which makes application easy since you dont need to dip the brush into the tube a million times. The only thing I don’t like is that they have a cherry scent; nothing unbearable but it just reminds of cherry medicine.

4. NYX Lipstick in Stella: Immediately when I saw this color I thought of MAC’s Nicki Minaj lipstick. It’s a very bright pink-coral color (Do you see a pattern here? I’m clearly obsessed with coral right now.) I don’t own that MAC lipstick but I have tried it in store and I think they are fairly similar. The quality of this lipstick actually surprised me because it’s very creamy and vibrant.

If you get a chance, stop by your nearest Ulta and check some of these products out. There is more variety online but I find it easier to go into the store and swatch colors and check out the quality of the products. Happy shopping! XoXo
