June Beauty Favorites!

1 Jul

Is it seriously already July?!Crazy. Summer is my favorite season by far, but sweating and looking like a greaseball is not exactly favorable. My favorite products this month have made it easy to look presentable and are simple to apply!

1. Wet n Wild Color Icon Bronzer in “me shell my belle”: I have been looking for this collection forever and I finally found it in Walgreens! What I love about it is that it comes with a medium brown matte bronzer and a nice light pink blush which is also matte. The pan is big enough that you can just use one or swirl them together for a nice flash of color. For the amount of product you get, and quality of it, you just can’t go wrong!

2. Sonia Kashuk Blush in “Flushed”: This is a gorgeous cool-toned bright pink which has awesome color pay off. Sometimes with bright blushes you have to be extra careful to make sure you don’t apply a ton of product and then end up looking like a clown. But this blush is so easy to blend and I feel that it would be flattering on all skin tones.

3. Essence “In the Nude” Lipstick: Although this lipstick isn’t super pigmented, it gives my lips a nice satin finish and moisturizes well. It’s such a steal for only $1.99 at my local Ulta. If I’m in a rush I like to apply this underneath of a nude lipgloss and it seems to mix well with just about anything.

4. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in “Brightener”: I seriously have not gone a day without using this stuff. It does exactly what it promises, conceals and treats dark circles without creasing under your eyes. I could’ve not slept for days, but once I put this creamy pink concealer on it instantly brightens my entire face.

5. Rimmel Fix & Perfect in 002: I have tried so many primers, but finding a drugstore one that works seems to be difficult. I was really impressed with this one because it does an amazing job of mattifying my T zone. It doesn’t clog my pores and it makes my makeup last so much longer.

What are your favorite products of the summer? I would love to hear them!

Review: NEW Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation

30 Jun

I am such a sucker for new drugstore products so when I saw that Revlon came out with a new formulation I hopped right on it! I have been using it for the past 3 1/2 weeks and here are my thoughts:

*There are 12 shades and I found it hard to find one that matched my skin because in the glass jar they all tend to look the same. I purchased mine in the color “Nude” which ended up matching me perfectly.

Texture: This claims to be whipped, but the consistency was more of a thick milkshake (weird, I know). I thought this would feel very heavy on the skin, but it ended up being much more lightweight than expected.

Staying Power: The package says 24 hours but seriously, who wears foundation for that long? I only need mine to last for about 10 hours and it did just that perfectly. It didn’t settle into my pores, and the finish was not totally matte, just a tad bit dewy. I added a translucent power on top to prevent any oiliness.

Coverage: I would consider this to be a medium-full coverage foundation. It is much lighter than the original Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation, but I found it to be much easier to blend.

Application: I have used my fingers, stippling brush, or a flat top kabuki brush to blend this in and all of them worked very well. It is super easy to blend and doesn’t leave any streaking like the original colorstay. The final result is a smooth and satin finish.

Packaging: I really like that this comes in a glass jar, it makes you forget that it is made by Revlon. But it seems to be a total waste and is bulky in my makeup organizer. The glass jar is deceiving as it does look like theres a ton of product but really there is only 0.8oz. Luckily, a little product goes a long way.

Overall, I am a huge fan of this foundation. I have been neglecting all my other ones, both drug store and high end ever since I tried this one. If you are looking for a long staying medium coverage foundation that controls shine- this is your best bet. It retails for about $11-15 at any local drugstore.

What do you think of the new Revlon products? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The Balm finds at Marshalls!

21 May

Image

I am so excited about this recent find at Marshall’s! If you aren’t familiar with The Balm, it is a fairly large beauty line and there are no harsh chemicals or sulfates in their products. It was recently on Hautelook and there were a lot of great deals available but something told me to hold off on it for just a little. So when I was in Marshalls I saw a ton of sets by The Balm! Everything from nail polish to skincare. I got my hands on this set which included a matte bronzer, a gorgeous coral blush and a tint. The matte bronzer is a perfect color for summer and is brown-based rather than the typical orange bronzers. The blush in “hot mama” is almost identical to Nar’s blush in “Laguna”. And the tint is an obvious dupe for Benefit’s “Benetint”; same color and formulation. I was really surprised by how great the quality was of these products and the best part was that it was only $9.99! The original retail price on the set says $55…and I was able to get all these great products for sooo much less. If you have a Marshalls near you and are interested in trying out any products from The Balm, run out now and see what goodies you can find!

May 2012 Birchbox

12 May

I have to start off by saying that this is my fifth month of being a birchbox subscriber and each month I continue to be dissapointed. Sure, there have been a few products that I’ve enjoyed but nothing that I love enough to go out and purchase. I told myself that since this month was a special box I would hold off and wait to see if I like it, before I jump to conclusions and cancel my subscription. Here is what was included in my box:

1. Bright red hair tie- Its big, cheap and looks ridiculous. Not to mention its worth less than a dollar.

2. Dr. Jart + Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+- I don’t use BB creams because they don’t provide any coverage at all and are horrible for oily skin.

3. BVLGARI Perfume- I HATE PERFUME SAMPLES. I can get an entire bag of them from Nordstrom or Macy’s if I wanted to…for free.

4. Stila Waterproof Sparkle Eyeliner- This was nice because it was full size but it’s gold sparkly and crazy waterproof. To give you an idea, I swatched it on my hand and it took 2 days of washing my hands and a shower to come off. And they expect me to use this on my eyes? I’ll pass.

5. Ojon Voumizing Condtioner- Just another tiny hair sample to add to a travel bag; nothing special at all.

6. A notecard- Seriously birchbox? When am I ever going to send someone a card with something that says “XOXO” written on the front?

I hate to sit here and bash a company but I feel that so many people have been upset with their Birchboxes over the past year. Ever since they became more popular their customer service has decreased tremendously and their boxes are most of the time, a complete rip off.

What are your favorite beauty subscriptions? Let me know!!

Nail Polish for a Penny (Seriously!)

8 May

If you have never heard of Julep, it’s basically a monthly subscription service similar to Birchbox. They send you 2-3 nail polishes each month along with certain tools (hand scrub, nail file, etc.) You take a style quiz when you register, which gives them an idea of whether you are girly or edgy and based on that you get a box! Unlike Birchbox, on Julep you get to see exactly what color polishes you are going to get and if you aren’t a fan, you can simply skip that month.

Soooooo….if you are interested in signing up:

Go to http://julep.com/?r=19658006

After you take the style quiz, enter in the code “SHAREONMAY”

And you will get your first box for only 1 penny! If you choose not to continue with the monthly subscription ($20), just simply cancel at no cost.

Enjoy!

Recent Drugstore Buys!

7 May

Walgreens and Rite Aid have had some great sales lately and I’ve surely been taking advantage of them! Here are some things that I recently picked up and my initial thoughts on them.

Image

1. Organix Morrocan Argon Oil Body Lotion: This stuff smells amazzzzzzing! I love that it leaves your skin smooth without having an oily or sticky residue. The entire Organix line (hair products included) is currently $2 off at Walgreens.

2. Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer in 002: Rimmel makes two different types of primers, the 001 is a bit tinted and the 002 is not. I heard a lot of good things about this one and it was also 50% at Walgreens, and I had an additional coupon. I will be doing a full review of this after a couple weeks of using it and compare it to the other primers I own.

3. Maybelline Age Rewind Brightening concealer: I have been using this religiously every day since I purchased it and I absolutely love it. It brightens, conceals and doesn’t crease under the eye area. I personally like this better than the Garnier Eye Roller.

4. Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara: I decided to try this out since all Rimmel products at Walgreens were 50%. It has a really cool brush that holds my curl all day! You kind of have to work with the brush and it takes some getting used to but the final result is really nice.

Image

5. Revlon 3D Volume Mascara: This formula is very similar to L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara. It has the same idea of creating the look of a lot of lashes and is lengthening as well as volumizing.

6. Revlon Lipgloss in “Belini”– Part of the new Gucci Westman Escapsim Collection, it is a nice neutral peachy shade. The formula on Revlon lipglosses are amazing- long wearing and not sticky!

7. Eco Tools Bronzing Brush: I don’t own any brushes by Eco Tools but I am so excited about this one! It makes bronzer application so easy and flawless. It is soft but dense enough to pick up just the right amount of product.

8. Revlon Lipstick in “Persian Melon”: A bright hot fuchsia pink that is perfect for the summer. And now at Rite Aid, all Revlon Products are 40%! This is the perfect time to stock up on your favorites or try out some new products.

8. Covergirl Lipstick in “Spellbound”: This is a bit of a more deeper fuchsia color that is more sultry. I believe this is a new color, because I saw an ad for it in this month’s Cosmopolitan magazine.

9. Sally Hansen Flirty Eyes Lash Curler: I picked this up because my beloved Lancome curler broke after many, many years of use. This one is just as good for only a fraction of the price! I believe it was $5 and Walgreens had an in-store coupon for $2 off.

If you are in the drugstore, make sure you check out some of the awesome sales going on!
