Popular Dupes!

25 Jul

You might be thinking…dupe? What in the world is a dupe? Well if you are new to the beauty world I’ll give you a little run down. A dupe is basically a product that is very similar or identical to another; an alternative. This usually means that the dupe may be a drugstore brand or just something that is cheaper and sometimes even better to the original product.

I absolutely love reading these types of posts and watching dupe comparison videos! There’s nothing better than getting a good product for a fraction of the cost. Here is a list of dupes that I have compiled through some research and my own testing:

1. Revlon Pink Pout & MAC Snob

2. Wet n Wild Pinkerbell & MAC Viva Glam Nicki

3. Wet n Wild eye shadow in “Nutty” & MAC Satin Taupe- If you do not own either of these, I highly suggest you pick up it! This shadow is a cult favorite, and is great to wear all over the lid to give your eyes some depth.

4. Maybelline Pink Please & MAC Creme Cup- Just the perfect light pink lip!

5. NARS deep throat & ELF Tickled Pink

6. Benefit Hoola Bronzer & NYC bronzer in Sunny

Review: The Balm Nude Tude Eyeshadow Palette

18 Jul

Hello beauties!

After recently discovering The Balm makeup products this year, I was excited to test this palette out and see what these shadows have to offer. First of all I have to say that the packaging of this palette is to die for! Nude/Neutrals palettes have been popping up all over the place and it seems that every brand now has their own version.

I had high hopes for the this palette that runs at about $36 and I was definitely not let down. Like my previous experiences with their products, these shadows were so buttery smooth and blended very easily. I like that these colors were wearable and since they were well pigmented, you could build up the color depending on if you are going to work or going out. I also enjoyed the fact that there were very shimmery colors, some satin finish, and a bunch of matte colors which are great for blending into the crease.

Image

1. Sassy- frosty white

2. Snobby- frosty yellow

3. Stubborn-frosty pinkish/peach

4. Stand-offish- a shimmery peach with yellow/gold undertones

5. Selfish-  taupey brown/grey color (reminds me a lot of MACs satin taupe)

6. Sultry- medium brown (satin/matte finish)

7. Sophisticated- dark brown with gold shimmer

8. Schizo- medium brown with gold shimmer

9. Sexy- a deep, matte reddish/brown

10. Silly- reddish brown with gold sparkle

11. Serious- matte black

12. Sleek- very dark matte brownish black

If you are looking for a good palette to travel with or something to add to your collection that is versatile and great quality, I would highly suggest this palette. Compared to the Naked 1 & 2 palettes, I think the colors in this product are more unique and not as glittery. You wanna look glowing, not like you just got attacked by the glitter aisle at Michaels.

Review: NEW Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation

30 Jun

I am such a sucker for new drugstore products so when I saw that Revlon came out with a new formulation I hopped right on it! I have been using it for the past 3 1/2 weeks and here are my thoughts:

*There are 12 shades and I found it hard to find one that matched my skin because in the glass jar they all tend to look the same. I purchased mine in the color “Nude” which ended up matching me perfectly.

Texture: This claims to be whipped, but the consistency was more of a thick milkshake (weird, I know). I thought this would feel very heavy on the skin, but it ended up being much more lightweight than expected.

Staying Power: The package says 24 hours but seriously, who wears foundation for that long? I only need mine to last for about 10 hours and it did just that perfectly. It didn’t settle into my pores, and the finish was not totally matte, just a tad bit dewy. I added a translucent power on top to prevent any oiliness.

Coverage: I would consider this to be a medium-full coverage foundation. It is much lighter than the original Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation, but I found it to be much easier to blend.

Application: I have used my fingers, stippling brush, or a flat top kabuki brush to blend this in and all of them worked very well. It is super easy to blend and doesn’t leave any streaking like the original colorstay. The final result is a smooth and satin finish.

Packaging: I really like that this comes in a glass jar, it makes you forget that it is made by Revlon. But it seems to be a total waste and is bulky in my makeup organizer. The glass jar is deceiving as it does look like theres a ton of product but really there is only 0.8oz. Luckily, a little product goes a long way.

Overall, I am a huge fan of this foundation. I have been neglecting all my other ones, both drug store and high end ever since I tried this one. If you are looking for a long staying medium coverage foundation that controls shine- this is your best bet. It retails for about $11-15 at any local drugstore.

What do you think of the new Revlon products? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

April Favorites!

2 May

Happy May everyone! I hope you’re all as excited as me for the summer! I discovered a ton of great products this month even though I have been keeping my makeup routine at a minimum. With the semester winding down and finals quickly approaching, I haven’t had much time to experiment as much as I like. Here are the products that I’ve been loving:

FACE

Maybelline Super Stay Liquid Foundation: I previously raved about the Revlon colorstay, but this foundation even beats that. I think why I love it so much is that it is more of a color match for my face and is such an awesome formula. It helps control oil all day and even lasted through my evening workout  at the gym without budging (Normally I wouldn’t wear makeup to the gym but I was coming from work). If you are a fan of the color stay foundation I highly suggest you give this one a try!

Monistat Soothing Care Chaffing Gel: I know, I know you’re probably thinking why in the world would I put a chaffing gel on my face? My boyfriend looked at me like I had 3 heads when he saw this in my bathroom; but what do they know anyway, right? 😉 Well I have heard many people raving about this as a primer! It turns out that the active ingredient in this gel is the same as in high-end primers. To be honest, if you put a MAC label on this you would have no idea that it wasn’t a primer. It goes on super smooth and leaves such a nice flawless finish underneath of foundation and powder. Trust me on this, just try it and see for yourself.

MAC Skinfinish Natural: This has always been my holy grail powder, and I don’t think I will ever be able to live without it! Flawless finish every time I use it.

Revlon Cream Blush in “Pinched”: This is part of Revlon’s new Gucci Westman Collection. I have never owned a cream blush because to be quite frank, they scare me. I just think it is so much easier swoosh some powder on your cheeks but this has totally transformed my thoughts on cream blush. First of all, this color is GORGEOUS- it’s a bright peach that blends in so well. There were three colors, all are bright, but from what I have heard they might look intimidating but they all blend in amazingly. I only purchased one, but I plan on going back for a second one because I’m hooked! EYES

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes: The name of this mascara does exactly that, it makes you look like you have a million lashes. I normally am not fond of rubber bristles but the formula on this makes lashes look so long and volumized! I used to use Lancome’s Definicils mascara and this is a very close dupe to that.

Jordana Fabuliner in Black: I remember using this felt-tip eyeliner in high school because it was so cheap ($1.99 at Walgreens) and I just rediscovered it. I honestly don’t know why I ever stopped using it! The felt tip is so saturated, so easy to work with and gives the best dark, matte finish. If you are not a fan of liquid eyeliner or have a hard time with gel eyeliner, TRY THIS. I promise you it’s amazing, and especially for the price!

LIPS

Revlon Lip Butters: With everything going on this month, I have been super lazy and just grabbing these lip butters. Specific favorite colors have been sweet tart (hot pink), Lollipop (bright fuscia) – I get tons of compliments when I wear this one, and last but not least Creme Brulee (champagne nude). I love these because they are super moisturizing and pigmented and give a nice sheen to the lips.

PERFUME

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: I have always had this perfume in my cabinet and every couple months I forget it exists and then rediscover it and fall in love all over again. It is the perfect every day scent; very crisp and clean and lasts for hours. And with this one, I always have people ask me what I’m wearing because it smells so good!

JEWELRY

Michael Kors Oversized Runway Watch in gold- If you follow me on twitter or instagram you would know that I stalked this watch out because it was sold out for a while at Nordstrom and Michael Kors. I have 2 other Michael Kors watches and think they are a fantastic quality and durability. They are a bit pricey, but they are beyond worth it. If you are a person who wears a watch every day like me, you will get years of use from it. The style is a classic, and I know I’ll be wearing it forever! I have also been stacking different bracelets and bangles on my wrist with it, a look that I also love!

And thats it for my favorites. Like I said, I wasn’t able to experiment with any eye shadows or things like that but I am excited over this month’s discoveries!

Hope everyone is enjoying their spring!

Battle of the Lip Butters!

30 Mar

So it seems that every makeup brand is coming out with their own line of lip butters. What is a lip butter you ask? Basically it’s a tube or pot of tinted lip balm- a product that will give you color and keep lips hydrated. I noticed so many of them out there on the market so I did some research of my own and here are my thoughts on the most popular ones.

1. Revlon Color Burst Lip Butters (can be found at drugstores): These come in SO many different shades that it was hard to pick one. I got creamsicle and it was a nudeish-orange tint. The packaging is super cute and really easy to just throw in your bag and go. I didn’t love this color because it came out a bit white and too frosty on my lips. The texture was really smooth and it kept my lips moisturized but I felt like it came off within half an hour.

Image

2. Maybelline Baby Lips: Unlike the Revlon ones, these are scented and they smell SO YUMMY! I got pink punch and cherry me, both are very pigmented (pinkish/red) and kept my lips soft for a while. I have to warn you though, I was tempted to lick it off because these smelled so good. For only $3-4 you really can’t go wrong with these!

Image

3. L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm: I am a total sucker for packaging and these reminded me of the YSL lipsticks so I was pretty much sold after that. I purchased two shades: caring coral and nourishing nude- both great everyday colors! Out of the drugstore balms this is definitely my favorite. The color variety was very nice, they were well tinted (more than a balm but a little less than lipstick). These had a great shiny sheen to them which was great because I didn’t have to apply lipgloss overtop of it.

Image

4. KORRES Lip Butter (can be found at Sephora): I LOVE this stuff! Usually I hate any lip products in pots, but this one is worth digging your finger in. I have it in the jasmine flavor which also seems to have a bit of a vanilla scent. I really enjoy it because the scent isn’t too overbearing and it keeps my lips hydrated all day.

Image

5. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Swivel Stick: This is a staple in my beauty bag for various reasons. This product can be used anytime you have super dry skin or chapped lips; I especially like this for the winter time when the weather seems to dry up my skin the most. It has a very nice vanilla scent and has no color or tint and I have heard people using it for anything from scars to stretch marks. It costs around $5 dollars and is well worth it for all the purposes it has.

What are your favorite lip butters? Are there any colors/shades that you particularly love? Let me know, I would love to hear them!

March Beauty Misses

27 Mar

In my journey to find the latest and greatest products I have also stumbled into a bunch that I wasn’t a fan of. Nothing annoys me more than when a company advertises a product and claims that it will do various things and it ends up not being able to live up to its hype. These following products I have had for about 2 months, plenty of time for me to fall in love (or in this case hate) with them.

1. Physicians Formula Happy Booster Bronzer: I had previously purchased the blush and really have been enjoying using it. It has great color and and the texture allows for easy blending on top of my powder; it also smells really good. But I was so dissapointed with this bronzer! There is virtually no color payoff, the colors look great in the pan but barely get on the brush (I was vigorously swooshing and stabbing it just so I could get some product). So after going through every possible brush I own, I gave up.

Image

2. Benefit Ooh La Lift Instant Under Eye Brightener: I have always been a fan of benefit products and found them to be pretty affordable and of good quality. I had high hopes for it but after using it every day for weeks I noticed NO difference. Literally nothing. I might as well have applied nothing under my eyes because that’s what it seemed like. The consistency is nice and it penetrates into the skin fairly quick but like I said, it didn’t brighten or conceal or reduce dark under eye circles or anything. What a bummer!

Image

3. MAC Benefit Fix +: I feel like I am going to anger a lot of MAC lovers with this one- seriously what’s the point of this product? I purchased it because so many people raved about it and used it as a makeup set or as a way to liven up your face. This did nothing for making my makeup stay on longer or reduce oil and keep my face matte all day. I tried reeeeaaaally hard to love it but I just can’t! I have also heard people using it on their hair to add a little shine and oomph, so maybe I’ll do that.

I guess it’s true what they say, you can’t win ’em all right? But if you have any suggestions with these products or ones that work better than them, please let me know!

Go Nude

16 Mar

Image

Even though bright lipsticks are all the rage this season, a nice nude lip color is classy and everyone can pull it off!

I’ve compiled a quick list of tips to help with finding the perfect nude lipstick without making you look like Casper the ghost.

DO find a color that is within two shades of your natural lip color. If you are fair skinned, look for colors that have a pink undertone. If you are medium or darker shade, go for the beige/brown undertone.

DON’T look washed out. You don’t want to look like you just put concealer all over your lips. “Nude” is a term to describe your natural lip color and you want to find a lipstick that makes you look like you..but better!

DO exfoliate your lips before applying lipstick. Nobody likes flaky dry lips so use a scrub or lip conditioner. Recently I have been loving MAC’s lip conditioner and I always put it on in the morning and before I go to bed at night. You can find it at any MAC store or online here: http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/164/472/Lip-Conditioner-Tube/index.tmpl

Here are a few of my favorite nudes!

1. Revlon in “Soft Nude”- I’ve talked about this one a couple times but it’s my go-to lipstick for everyday and you cant beat the drugstore price.

2. L’Oreal in “Fairest Nude”- The formula is so smooth and leaves a nice creamy finish that lasts pretty well throughout the day. This is a little more mauve than the Revlon color, and I think it would look great with any skin tone. The only complaint I have is that it has a bit of a chemical smell, so if you are sensitive to scents this may not be for you.

3. MAC in “Viva Glam Gaga 2”- This color is more beige and can make me look washed out so I only use it in the summer. If you are naturally dark this would be a great nude color for you and it’s pretty affordable as well.

What are your favorite nude lipsticks?
